Seattle Listed as #1 City for Chinese Home Buyers

Data from Juwai.com shows that Seattle ranks #1 in top inquired cities for mainland Chinese consumers exploring real estate in the United States. Seattle’s popularity has increased dramatically over the past few years, according to Seattle Magazine. This rise in popularity was largely due to the British Columbian government establishing a 15% foreign buyer tax in Vancouver in 2016, deterring Chinese investors away from Canada, a historically popular destination for Chinese home buyers.

Many Chinese look to the United States to diversify their investments with the belief that the United States has a stable government. Wealthy Chinese favor United States constitutional protections that limit reckless government policy making. Washington State has been particular favorable among Chinese investors since it does not impose income tax which allows Chinese families to enjoy more discretionary spending.

Seattle’s cultural acceptance has also increased in the last twenty years making Chinese homebuyers feel welcome. In fact, 30% of the city of Bellevue’s population consists of Asian Descent and Chinese nationals.
