EB-5 Investment: Q&A
The EB-5 investment program provides excellent opportunities for both investors and the US economy. In exchange for a job-producing investment in the US, foreign investors receive a green card for themselves and their families and a path to possible citizenship. Here are a few facts about the program that will answer many of the questions we hear from potential investors.
Who can invest? Any accredited foreign investor can participate in the program. An accredited investor is a person who has a net worth of $1 million, either alone or jointly with their spouse, or who has had an annual income of over $200,000 for a single person or $300,000 jointly with a spouse for the past two years. If qualifying based on income, the investor must reasonably expect to make the same amount this year.
How much do I need to invest? This varies according to the location of the investment. The regular investment is at least $1 million. However, if you are investing in a Targeted Employment Area, one which has experienced high unemployment or is in a rural part of the US, your investment requirement is at least $500,000.
Where can I invest? Investments qualify for new commercial enterprises or for existing, troubled businesses that will benefit for which the investment will result in an increase in jobs. The most effective way to invest is through a Regional Center like American Life, Incorporated, where the center provides opportunities to invest in job-producing endeavors.
